Your rights during the investigation of the crime and in court
You, as the victim, have the following rights:
- Be accompanied by your chosen person when going to the police or the court
- Receive information from the police about the progress of the investigation
- Receive free psychological and emotional support
- Receive compensation for the damages caused by the crime – damaged belongings, physical injuries and emotional distress
- Request the appointment of a state-funded lawyer, if this is necessary to properly defend your interests, for example, if the lawyer hired by your parents or guardians does not represent your interests.
- Receive translation and interpretation services, if you do not speak Lithuanian
- Receive a notification from the police, if the person who committed the crime is released from police custody or prison
- Not come into contact with the person who committed the crime in the police or in court
- Receive additional support in court when talking about what happened, in order to make it easier for you to do so
